Social Networking via Internet

Social networks have grown greatly in popularity over the internet; it seems a new social network site is cropping up every day online.   There are many different uses and types and it seems most sites keep expanding their services.

Twitter is a site where members “tweet”.  Meaning they can send and receive messages as “tweets”.  Tweets are short messages up to 140 characters.  People can “subscribe” to other people’s tweets and get them automatically sent to them.   Twitter users can even be savvy and advertise specials at their businesses etc.

MySpace is one of the more popular social networking sites.  MySpace users are required to be 18 years old.  There are many “skins” and templates users can access to personalize their pages.  MySpace users can add music, photos and short video clips to their page.  MySpace users can make their profiles public where anyone can see it or private where only “friends” they select can view it.

Facebook started off at a university and eventually became a movie.  Facebook has become one of the best known social networking sites.  Facebook used to require that a user have school email address or a business email address but now has expanded so everyone can join.  Facebook has even expanded so much that major companies are using it as a powerful advertising tool.  Many companies even offer consumers special offers if they “like” their page.   Facebook is even host to different online applications and games for its users.  There are virtual worlds of every type.    Facebook is very user friendly and grandparents are even using it to stay in touch with grandkids.

Social networking is increasing in popularity and sites are catering to consumers more than ever before.  It’s easy as joining a site and seeing what it has to offer you.
