It’s a virtual workplace these days. We telecommute, check sales on the internet, answer important email, and promise to be connected and responsive 24/7. It seems like you’d be anchored to your office chair, doesn’t it? You tried the traditional laptop, but it got pretty heavy by the end of the first week. Here’s the solution. Go light! Netbook computers make your work load light. These small little laptops, or notebooks, weigh in at about two pounds. They’re about the size of a hardback book, but they’re just a little slimmer. They fit in briefcases, or even over-sized purses, with ease. You’re not going to spend much time doing heavy computing on one of these little technological wonders, but you’ll easily check email, browse important work websites, make airline reservations, and the quick stuff that seems to keep us the busiest. It’s always been said that computer technology is present. The challenge would be making it smaller and more portable. Certainly smart phones can do the same thing as a netbook, but who would want to type a lengthy email on one? In a pinch these little computers will replace your traditional laptop. The only drawback is that they’re so small they don’t contain a DVD player. External hard drives are needed for that luxury, and that just gets back to the same old “too much stuff” model. Of course, much of what you’d put on an old school CD can be easily put on a thumb drive. There’s another technology wonder! Ultimately, for the type who travels light, a netbook computer is a great choice. They’re inexpensive, too. They start around $230, so it’s not big loss if it suffers serious damage. Give a netbook a try and see if it doesn’t lighten the load.
